The Junior League of Gainesville (JLG) uses only the following criteria for consideration of a prospective member:
- She shall possess an interest in voluntarism, a commitment to community service and an interest in developing her potential for voluntary community participation
- She shall have reached her 22nd birthday before June 1 of the administrative year in which she will be a new member
NEW MEMBER YEAR
The official League experience begins with a formal training program known as the New Member Year. The New Member training introduces interested women to the intricacies and expectations of the League.
The training series allows members to learn about the JLG structure and programs, as well as experience some of our community impact programs first-hand.
The series includes large group meetings, advisor-led small group discussions, educational opportunities, a tour of Junior League of Gainesville community landmarks, Thrift Shop group shifts, and attending other League functions such as general membership meetings and social events. At the conclusion of the New Member year, the New Member class works together to develop and implement its own community project.
After completing the New Member year, volunteers can move on to an Active status and participate in one of the League’s various committees.
NEW MEMBER REQUIREMENTS
Time Investment. New members are required to attend a minimum of six General Membership meetings in addition to the New Member Course and meet other requirements (i.e. volunteer at the JLG Thrift Shop) as defined in the League Policies.
Financial Investment. All Junior League members pay various dues and fees each league year. Additional information about member payment requirements can be found in the New Member Application.
