The Junior League of Gainesville (JLG) uses only the following criteria for consideration of a prospective member:
- She shall possess an interest in voluntarism, a commitment to community service and an interest in developing her potential for voluntary community participation
- She shall have reached her 22nd birthday before June 1 of the administrative year in which she will be a new member
NEW MEMBER YEAR
The official League experience begins with a formal training program known as the New Member Year. The New Member training introduces interested women to the intricacies and expectations of the League.
The training series allows members to learn about the JLG structure and programs, as well as experience some of our community impact programs first-hand.
The series includes large group meetings, advisor-led small group discussions, educational opportunities, a tour of Junior League of Gainesville community landmarks, volunteering at impact opportunities and with community partners, and attending other League functions such as general membership meetings and social events. At the conclusion of the New Member year, the New Member class works together to develop and implement its own community project.
After completing the New Member year, volunteers can move on to Active status and participate in one of the League’s various committees.
NEW MEMBER REQUIREMENTS
Time Investment. In spring 2019, the Junior League of Gainesville adopted a “Points System” instead of predetermined requirements to allow members greater flexibility in crafting a League experience that best fits their schedule and interests while still fulfilling the mission of the JLG. New members need to earn 50 points during the year with 60% of those points being earned at required new member meetings and events and 40% being earned by the new member choosing what she would like to participate in.
Financial Investment. All Junior League members pay various dues and fees each league year. Additional information about member payment requirements can be found in the New Member Application.
HOW TO APPLY
Applications for the new League year are now being accepted. Please complete this application form. Applications are due each year on May 1. Once your application and fee have been received and processed, you will receive a status of applicant and information on how to log in to our member site. You will have limited access, but you will get a feel for how the interface works as a member. You will also need to pay your annual dues on this site for official enrollment in the new member class.
