Community Impact Opportunities (CIO) are opportunities for our membership to provide hands-on volunteer service in our community through an existing JLG committee project or an external agency.
Some of our current projects include:
Belk Fashion Show for PACE Center for Girls
For the last several years, the Junior League of Gainesville has partnered with Belk in the Oaks Mall to hold a fashion show benefitting the PACE Center for Girls. Girls from PACE who have met certain criteria set by their teachers get to participate in the fashion show. They have their make-up done at Belk and model outfits of their choice for the women of the Junior League and their friends and family. It’s a special event for the PACE girls and for the entire League. Funds raised at the event through a raffle and “catwalk contributor” sponsors is used for projects at PACE. Thank you to Belk for continuing to partner with the League for the benefit of PACE!
Family Visitation Center
For the past 15 years, the Junior League of Gainesville has provided support to this safe and home-like facility for family visitations that are restricted by court action.
Thrift Shop Voucher Program
First opened in 1935, the Junior League Thrift Shop continues to be a primary source of funding for us. Donations by members and the community at large provide toys, household goods, and apparel (quality casual outfits, professional attire and children’s clothing) that are sold at affordable prices. In addition to selling items, the Thrift Shop works with various agencies to provide clothing to local families through our voucher program, interview suits to graduates of the Santa Fe Community College’s Displaced Homemakers Program, and coats to local children.
