Overview 2000 to Today 1990s 1950-1989 The First Decades - 1935-1949

On a day in May, 1935, a few young women gathered on the front porch of "Aunt Carrie's" (Mrs. James W. McCollum, later Mrs. J.H. Palmer) home and began plans for the organization of a Junior Welfare League.  The League was formally organized on May 27, 1935.  Its purpose, as stated in the Charter, was to "foster interest among its members in the social, economic, educational, and civic conditions of the community and to make efficient their volunteer service."

Today, the Junior League of Gainesville is a vibrant strong organization making positive change in our community. Read about our growth and evolution over the years by selecting the tabs at the top.
